Dave Nicar joins Frank and Beans this week as our spcial in-studio guest!

Sick of the cold weather - thank God the groundhog saw his shadow; how many years of Bill Murray's life would he have had to have spent to learn all the stuff his character did in the movie Groundhog Day? Marriage augments the time-space continuum; using the phrase "per capita" can add credence to any pseudo-fact you're trying to sell; playing with loops; Esque - love 'em or hate 'em; having 20,000 friends on myspace doesn't make you a success; the MCI crowd: made up of nothing but "friends and family" (a Dave Nicar-ism); pretentiousness in the local scene is a waste of effort; good cop - bald cop; 45 year old guys need love, too; Britney Spears is bald and Beans confesses that he is Anna Nicole Smith's baby's daddy; who wrote that song? Bed, Bath and Beyond is a part of date night; famous people who live in Memphis; a tricky pause in the middle of songs; the trouble with original artists doing covers; the "Rule of Hootie;" setting a date for the MATA pub crawl - come out and meet Chris (aka Sgt. Shitnuts); Dave brings a gift for Frank and Beans; death and dying brought back around to poop; just who is Jamie Baker? Twisting Dave's arm - so he plays with his teeth; Beans says that we'll play your music, regardless of genre; Frank says he won't play you if you suck; more examples of incorrect grammar this time found in public business; "chick" employee blowing a nut; Beans says another ten cent word: "colloquial;" promoting Rachel hurley's podcast: 10 Degrees;" remembering the Subteens CD release party; Dave has bows on his guitar that he says are from (and for) his daughter; Reno 911 movie = good times

Not Another Locals Show # 19

If you read these show notes while you listen, be aware that the static (clipping) heard throughout this show is not in your ipod or computer speakers. It is brought to you courtesy of our hi-tech gear and recording prowess. Aside from the static on the line, this is an outstanding episode with our very special, very funny and very talented guests, the local duo (turned trio): Rae-Ray!

Runday night and a time warp; Rae-Ray (And re') are in the studio with us this week; the secret Memphis superpower band - Slam Heidi-Jay-Rae; more $10 words from Beans; Shaunizzle gave Beans his nickname; Frank's little league baseball analogy; the sordid origin of Rae-Ray; the Joe Lewis fist and Ozzy; Frank's imaginary friend; palindromes are your friend; Frank is starting a band made of of other people who aren't in their old bands anymore - he's going to call it "Defunct;" Frank films some of the in-studio performance; Frank asks the question: since myspace has a space for "proud parent" or "doesn't want kids," where is the choice of deadbeat parent? why do you have to have kids to "understand?" Beans makes a horrible segue into the last recorded song; benefit for the Memphis Women's Rugby Club this Friday night, Jan 26, at the Madison Flame; how songwriting can get you tail.

Not Another Locals' Show # 15

So far this year, we've featured over 80 different bands from Memphis and the Midsouth. To close out 2006, we thought we'd give out a few honorable mentions. We're playing a couple of songs from three area bands and offering up a bit of critical praise on why we enjoyed them.

This is a slightly condensed version of the show for the holidays; this is the "taint" of the season - St. Taint; got big balls?; we don't care how good or bad your recording is as long as the music is fun; feeling the passion; our "millieu?"; Frank talks about webisodes and Beans corrects him - here's some of the reasoning we missed on the actual recording:

Don't say webisode because what we're doing here is not called webisodes - these are episodes. People who don't know what their talking about call their podcast installments "webisodes."

Per wikipedia a webisode is:

"... a webcast episodic video show. It is similar in structure to a television series and usually new episodes are published on a periodic basis through a website or some other internet based medium. Typically shows have short runs (about 5 episodes) but some go on for much longer. Content varies greatly and sometimes the webisodes are just to push some other content (such as an upcoming film)."
A good example of a local series of webisodes comes from our buddies at Danger Couch.

Other pet peeves; driving in Memphis and trying to make a right-hand turn; Merry Christmas - let me over, bitch; reverse-reverse psychology from Frank's brother; MATA pub crawl; legal contracts from rubbing the Buddha in our studio; hints at what we're planning in 2007; Beans talks about being good people and being in a band - these do not have to be mutually beneficial traits; Beans had a drinky-drinky, but no drinky-pukey; celebrating All Taints Day; Frank offers the olive branch to Ronald in Michigan.

Featured Bands
The Acorns myspace
Hey Heidi-Rae web myspace
Taco and Da Mofo's myspace

This episode closes out 2006 for Frank and Beans! We appreciate your patronage and hope you'll join us for more merriment, magnificence, madness and music from Memphis, the Midsouth and beyond!

See you next year!

Not Another Locals' Show # 11

We were still recovering from a tryptophan overdose from our Thanksgiving festivities when

this episode was produced. Though the show may start off a bit more mellow than

normal, don't let it fool you! We have some incredible music this episode (as

always) and pick up the pace in the second half hour!

Sleepy Sunday recording day; Frank may run half of the St. Jude marathon; the special

musical guests had to cancel for this episode; the studio is citris fresh; technical

difficulties once again plague Beans; send us some music; Rae-Ray is playing on Dec 1 at

Otherlands with Bret Preston and Holly Cole; is "pandering" a word?; our dick head

PR guy's name is "info;" more technical issues; listening to music for the first

few podcasts; myspace battle of the bands review; critique of "battles" of bands

and pay-to-play shows; Beans spills the beans on an Arkansas venue; Frank's gay bar story

for his memoires, or as he put it, his life's "synapsis;" Beans doesn't believe in Nebraska; if you're a local band,

you need to put your shit on the podsafe

music network under a creative commons license; our two bits on Kramer's verbal

diarrhea; logic plays no part in being offended; Beans has created a dysfunctional family

relationship with the stars of TBS reruns; Frank's rant on "old school;" more

commentary on the DJ at the Memphis Roller Derby bout; the noises vikings, cowboys and

bengal tigers make; "my salt licks are the saltiest;" yes, even more technical

troubles - listen as Frank tries to fill up dead air when the CD player quits working; Frank

breaks down at the end of the show...

Featured Bands (Song)

We're releasing episode 9 a little early this week since both Frank and Beans will be otherwise engaged over the next few days - we wanted avoid just skipping an episode, so we figured moving this one up a few days wouldn't hurt... We should be back on our regular Thursday schedule for episode 10 on November 23rd! One special note for this week's podcast: Beans had a lot of trouble with the background music and apologies to Burney Warren for allowing a hint of said background track-age to seep through while playing "When You Talk Like That."

Meet Zell Bent, Sid-less Nacy and Buns 'n' Roses from Memphis Roller Derby! Frank and Beans learn about Roller Derby; myspace takes away indie band, Bones, myspace page and gives it to Fox Network's TV show "Bones" - then, Myspace Tom gives it back! Beans runs through a list of really bad website URL's (courtesy of mistupid.com); 6 degrees of Roller Derby bacon; Beans successfully gets through the show without using the "D" word, but Frank doesn't; there will be beer and kids at the roller derby bout - you can drink a beer while your kids (under 17) can hang out with derby girl-babysitters; the first ever rap act on Not Another Locals' Show reminds the guys of the time when Frank tried to teach Beans how to rap; you too can join the Memphis Roller Derby league - even if you don't want to skate! Frank gets new talent by "falling upon" them; pulses are optional for the guys; if you're a local band, get out and play; is "extra patchouli" ever a good thing? Roofies give you that warm and fuzzy feeling late at night, just like the creepy guy laughing on our outro music...

This is episode #6 and you're not another local listener of fine Memphis independent rock music!

Frank starts the show off without any pity for Beans and his difficulty adjusting to his new job; Lee (from the band Simon) wrote us and pointed out grammatical mistakes we made during the last episode - we point out our own grammatical errors to make Lee's job easier this time around; Not Another Local Band! has been asked to help place local bands each mile of this year's St. Jude Marathon - send us an email if you want to be a part of it; more on chick rock; Chuck Norris vs. every stingray on the planet; the Pope may have to stock up on condoms; a little prog rock, a little ska is always good; telling people what to do - another rant by Frank on what not to do; fried Coke; standing too close to your Picasso; no more "tag" in Boston; drunk bears being hunted with sporks and fried coke; local bands should use podshow.com - it's the smart way to market your tunes for free.
