Thu, 22 February 2007 Dave Nicar joins Frank and Beans this week as our spcial in-studio guest! Sick of the cold weather - thank God the groundhog saw his shadow; how many years of Bill Murray's life would he have had to have spent to learn all the stuff his character did in the movie Groundhog Day? Marriage augments the time-space continuum; using the phrase "per capita" can add credence to any pseudo-fact you're trying to sell; playing with loops; Esque - love 'em or hate 'em; having 20,000 friends on myspace doesn't make you a success; the MCI crowd: made up of nothing but "friends and family" (a Dave Nicar-ism); pretentiousness in the local scene is a waste of effort; good cop - bald cop; 45 year old guys need love, too; Britney Spears is bald and Beans confesses that he is Anna Nicole Smith's baby's daddy; who wrote that song? Bed, Bath and Beyond is a part of date night; famous people who live in Memphis; a tricky pause in the middle of songs; the trouble with original artists doing covers; the "Rule of Hootie;" setting a date for the MATA pub crawl - come out and meet Chris (aka Sgt. Shitnuts); Dave brings a gift for Frank and Beans; death and dying brought back around to poop; just who is Jamie Baker? Twisting Dave's arm - so he plays with his teeth; Beans says that we'll play your music, regardless of genre; Frank says he won't play you if you suck; more examples of incorrect grammar this time found in public business; "chick" employee blowing a nut; Beans says another ten cent word: "colloquial;" promoting Rachel hurley's podcast: 10 Degrees;" remembering the Subteens CD release party; Dave has bows on his guitar that he says are from (and for) his daughter; Reno 911 movie = good times In-studio guest: Dave Nicar myspace Featured Bands (Song) Esque (The Glorious Death of Me) myspace Dave Nicar (Taking It to the Streets) myspace Eureka Gold (Lovely Lovely) web myspace Dave Nicar in-studio performance: Never Dreamed Jamie Baker (Touch of Heaven) web myspace Dave Nicar in-studio performance: Ain't it Funny The Subteens (Bad Boy) CDBaby Please go see Dave Nicar and celebrate his new release: Castaway! The official CD release party is on April 27th at the "Spindini" building in downtown Memphis. Thanks to everyone who continues to support local music. thanks to everyone who listens to us every week! If this is your first time to check us out, we hope you heard something you liked. If so, go to that artist's web site and tell them that you think they don't suck. We invite everyone to share our website and podcast with a friend; there's a lot more to Memphis music than Elvis and Beale Street... come back next week for more of the best music from Memphis, the midsouth and beyond! Thu, 15 February 2007 Singer/songwriter Jobu Babin is our in-studio guest this week!
This was a really fun show! I'm a bit under the weather, so I'm foregoing the normal show notes for this quick and dirty synopsis of episode 22: trucker ass and scool bus drivers; tricking people into a vulnerable position to witness about your faith; Jesus is the All-in-One cleaner; using music for social and political ends; Beans night at the Hi Tone included a kick ass performance by Micah Dalton and being surrounded by pretentious talkers; what's up with the audiences in Memphis; Jobu falls for the pheromone spam; Frank expresses what a woman needs to smell like to attract a man; shout out to Christina and Jimbo of Memphis House Concerts In-studio guest: Jobu Babin myspace Featured Bands (Song) Micah Dalton (Blame it on January) web myspace Jobu Babin in-studio performance: I am One Jobu Babin in-studio performance: Ohio The Frail Division (Sara) web myspace Fatal Errors (Oblivian) myspace Jobu Babin in-studio performance: Happy Jobu Babin in-studio performance: The Motorist Chess Club (Well, I Never (live)) web myspace Thanks for joining us!
